Former Ekiti governor Ayo Fayose on Monday unleashed a blistering rebuke of former President Olusegun Obasanjo in a “thank you” text message released to journalists in Abeokuta.
Chief Obasanjo had attended Fayose’s 65th birthday celebration in Lagos over the weekend and made remarks at the event that Chief Fayose later called “irresponsible” and “below” the former president’s age.
Chief Fayose, who kept silent at the party, sent an SMS to Chief Obasanjo after the event that was made public by his media aide, Mr. Kehinde Akinyemi.
The message read in part: “Your coming to my birthday party I appreciate except for your very irresponsible comments at your age…someone once said you are supposed to be kept away in the zoo. Sincerely, that’s where you belong.”
The former governor went on to accuse Chief Obasanjo of having “lost your sanity” or being at “the heightened stage of dementia,” and warned he would “set the records straight in due course of time”.
He also demanded the return of money he said Chief Obasanjo publicly admitted receiving: “I shall appreciate if you return my money since you publicly admitted you received but Dangote brought u back. Your leopard will never change his skin.”
Chief Obasanjo responded tersely: “Ayo, thanks for your ‘Thank You’ message which undisguisedly revealed who and what you are, unchanged and unchangeable. Your money has been sent back through Foluso Adeagbo who brought it and in the same bag as he brought it unopened by me.”
